Advertising Guidelines for Licensed Contractors

Add Your TSBC Licence Number to All Digital

and Print Promotions

Hello, 

Licensed contractors in BC overseeing or performing regulated work in the electrical, gas, boilers, pressure vessel, refrigeration, and elevating technologies are required by legislation to publish their company name and Technical Safety BC (TSBC) licence number when advertising their services to the public. These changes took effect on September 6, 2022 and have been implemented in a phased approach.

Phase 1 – Digital Advertising  

Effective January 1, 2023 all digital advertising of regulated services, such as on your company website, social media accounts, or digital advertising platforms, must include your TSBC license number (ie, TSBC Licence # LXX1234567).

Phase 2 – Print Advertising  

Effective September 30, 2023 all print advertising of regulated services, such as business cards, quotes, contracts, invoices, letterhead, brochures, print ads or directory listings, must include your TSBC license number (ie, TSBC Licence # LXX1234567).

Phase 3 – Physical Company Assets (NEW) 
In response to industry feedback, it is now optional for licensed contractors to display their TSBC licence number on vehicles, storefronts, and equipment.

Adding your licence number has multiple benefits. It demonstrates that you’re a qualified contractor, provides us with additional ways to investigate and enforce against unlicensed workers who are promoting illegal work, and most importantly, it helps the public understand who they can trust to perform services safely. The public can now easily look up licensed contractors through our online Find a Licensed Contractor tool.
